La Zélandaise

La Zélandaise is a Zeeland creuse grown the French way on tables. Our grower manages to create an oyster with a unique creamy flavour and a well-dosed saltiness. The bags are regularly inverted, shaken and moved so that the oysters grow in a nice shape and can take full advantage of the sea current.

Description

Our great-grandfather Pieter Verwijs started farming oysters in 1880. Since we can remember, we have lived with and from the sea. We are proud to continue his legacy with Premier. Our seafarmer Hans Nelis grows our La Zélandaise with great care and love. The oyster is grown in special bags on tables. It is a creuse from the same family as Irish or French oysters but from Zeeland waters.

The Gault&Millau organisation selected our La Zélandaise as oyster of the year!

Marc Declerck, CEO of Gault&Millau explains why this oyster was awarded the “Selected by Gault&Millau” quality label: “This oyster is a creuse, which, due to its creaminess and well-dosed saltiness, is more reminiscent of the Zeeland flat oyster in terms of finesse, than of a traditional hollow. A fine nutty flavour finale completes the picture.”
