Yerseke, July 1, 2024 - Mussel processing company Krijn Verwijs Yerseke reached an agreement last week to take over the YE20 and its associated mussel farming business from Jos Verschuure. This step continues the long-standing collaboration between Jos, his cousin Dennis Verschuure, and Krijn Verwijs, to whom they have been supplying mussels for a long time.
“There's no succession within the family, so I saw this takeover as a suitable solution. The experienced crew will stay on board, and I will further commit to Krijn Verwijs,” says Jos Verschuure. Jos will use his expertise within Krijn Verwijs as a field manager for all farming businesses within the group. The collaboration with Dennis Verschuure will continue and be further intensified.
Krijn Verwijs has been actively supporting the mussel sector in Zeeland for years by pooling expertise to strengthen the sector. "We consider Yerseke as the knowledge center for shellfish and crustaceans. To maintain and strengthen this position, strong Dutch mussel farming is essential," says Caroline Verwijs, director of Krijn Verwijs.
"We want to facilitate farmers so they can focus on the cultivation and harvest of the beautiful products from our waters. Our focus is on processing and commercially offering their products. This way, we combine the best of both worlds and strengthen the mussel sector in Yerseke. We believe collaboration is the key to the success of our sector," says Caroline Verwijs.
Jos Verschuure adds, "I am delighted that my expertise finds a new home within Krijn Verwijs. This collaboration offers opportunities to strengthen the mussel sector in Yerseke and continue our shared passion for high-quality sea products. I look forward to contributing to the growth and innovation within the sector in my new role."
With this acquisition and the continuation of valuable collaborations, Krijn Verwijs Yerseke and its partners strengthen their position in the sector and commit to the future of mussel farming in Zeeland.
