Danish (Spring)mussels

true spring mussels

The Danish mussel is unique for a couple of reasons. Most mussels are known for their summery feel and fullness in winter, the Danish mussel however is at their best in another season. This mussel is available in March, the time when most mussel seasons end. This means the Danish mussel is the ideal mussel for spring. The Danish mussel's young and fresh character means they are a true spring mussel.

Our Danish rope-grown mussels are a unique product. These organic mussels have been carefully cultivated for years by the Danish Lykke family. Their cultivation method raises the mussels just below the water surface. As a result, the mussels are not accustomed to a hard bottom and require gentle handling. In Danish waters, the mussels develop a creamy and robust flavor.Growing just below the water surface allows these mussels to fully benefit from sunlight and nutrient-rich water.

Lykke Family

Our Danish mussel is a richly filled mussel that is velvety and tender. This is because they grow just below the water surface in the Limfjord. The sunlight and the fresh, nutrient-rich water ensure that they can be harvested after just one year. The Lykke family takes care of this process, having cultivated our rope-grown mussels for years, and they take pride in the exceptional quality.

“We exclusively cultivate organic rope-grown mussels. In this cultivation method, the mussel is raised by the water itself. As a result, the shell is not accustomed to a hard bottom and requires careful handling. Due to the freshwater environment, the mussel develops a creamy flavor, making it an excellent choice for a delicious meal.”
